Culture & Food

The culture of a country or region brings together many aspects but one of those that I like most is gastronomy.

Each region has its specialty and each family its recipes handed down from generation to generation.

Mexican Food

When I arrived in Mexico obviously I threw myself on tacos and guacamole, but after a few years of daily life I discovered a very special and delicious gastronomy that has so much more to offer than a few tacos and a little mashed avocados.

Mayan Food

That’s why I decided to offer you the opportunity to discover these easy to prepare recipes that are full of flavors that use simple and local products. The main ingredient in the Americas is, of course, corn, but there are plenty of ways to prepare and consume it.

Ancestral Cuisine

Mayan Immersion offers you an introduction to Mayan ancestral cuisine, during which you will have the chance to discover the secrets of the “Massa”, and what delicious products are prepared with this corn paste as well as some delicious accompaniments.

Mayan Cooking Class

The Mayan Cooking Class lasts approximately 3 hours.

Lets Eat, Tortillas & Tamalles

Then, having prepared tortillas, tamales and other specialty Maya we gather around a table to taste the food.

Pollo Pipbil

On the 24h Immersion you can choose to take this cooking class and discover how the “Pollo Pipbil,” is prepared. It is an ancient chicken recipe which is cooked in the earth.

Transport

How do we travel there?

To give you the best value possible we leave the transport costs out of the tour because many of our guests have their own vehicles.

We can arrange transport either a hire car or a taxi. Contact us to get an accurate idea of costings.

Clothes

What should I wear?

For the class you are advised to wear comfortable and closed shoes. Covered arms and legs, if possible a lightweight t-shirt with long sleeves to protect you from (possible) mosquitoes.

Of course remember to bring your camera.

Protection

Can we wear Sunscreen and Mosquito repellent?

You can use mosquito repellent and sunscreen, I will ask you to use only environmentally friendly / biodegradable products.

We have eco friendly mosquito repellent available in the Mayan Immersion shop.

Private & Personalised

Why is a Private & Personalised tour better?

  • Intimate Experience
  • More chance to see Monkeys

Mayan Immersion only does Private & Personalised tours. That means that we personalise the tour around your requirements so that you have a more enjoyable time.

Weather

I can’t Guarantee the weather, so if the forecast isn’t so good we may have to try and reschedule.
